#87 of {project}365-Sprinkles Cupcakes {my review}

Ok so I’ve been hearing about this Sprinkles Cupcake bakery out of Beverly Hills for quite some time now. We’ve had one here in Scottsdale I’m not exactly sure for how long. I’ve seen several Facebook posts on it and twit pics, etc. I think I personally have an obsession with cupcakes. Yes I am a health nut with an addiction to sugar! This is no secret for most of you. I’ve been trying my whole life to rid refined sugar from my diet, but alas I’m weak. I love to watch Cupcake Wars on the Food Network.Every time I do it has reminded me that I need to get my buns to Scottsdale and see what all the fuss is about with these Sprinkles Cupcakes. So I finally can say that I’ve tried them. My two favorite cupcakes are lemon and red velvet. So these are the choices I made at Sprinkles. These were good, but I have to say I’m not all that impressed. I mean $3.50 a cupcake? I mean you can literally make well over 24 cupcakes for that amount of money. Sprinkles Cupcakes are not any bigger than normal. Yes their frosting is amazing. It’s a more dense cupcake, which I like because to me a more dense cupcake equals more of a gourmet feeling. However there really isn’t much taste to the cake itself. I love that they are made fresh daily in smaller batches and with fresh ingredients and no trans fats. I truly think that they have been very successful because they are the world’s first cupcake bakery and have truly mastered their marketing. It’s a lot like a brand of shoes like Louis Vuitton you prefer more even if a pair can set you back at least $600 more than the average pump. They are the Louis vuitton red bottom shoes of their industry. I’m sure when people see their signature buttons atop the cupcake they get giddy inside, just like one would feel giddy slipping on a pair of Louis Vuittons and kicking up their heel just to see their signature red bottom soul. I know I would. They have truly mastered their brand and for that I tip my “hat” to them. Will I return? Maybe in a yr or so or if someone else is treating and I most certainly wouldn’t turn them down as a gift by no means. :) And perhaps to “review” other flavors. But I most certainly won’t go out of my way all the way to Scottsdale to purchase one. And even though I can make 24 cupcakes for the price of their one, I certainly won’t be doing that either as I would eat them all. So the benefit of having Sprinkles cost so much is you’re more likely to buy less and eat less, therefore gaining less weight and really savoring the one you do purchase, making it a special treat, as all sweets should be. Brilliant.
